Motivating your Team – What Really Works?

April 19th, 2012 by Stefano

I found this video which is very interesting on what really motivates us humans…

Turns out what actually is a proven motivator for individuals on complex tasks are:

Autonomy -- The desire to be self directed. (eg. Once a quarter, developers for 24 hours can work on whatever they want with whoever they want but at the end of the meeting they must show the results to the team at the end of the 24 hours.) This has let to more new ideas and software fixes than any other incentive. One single day of autonomy produces results that never emerged before.

Mastery -- The urge to get better at stuff. (eg. People play musical instruments on weekends even though they don’t get paid because it’s fun & enjoyable and it’s satisfying to get better at things.)

Purpose - Look at the amazing, technically sophisticated people that have developed Linux, Apache, Joomla, Wikipedia, etc. All working real jobs and doing all this work outside of work. We are purpose driven just as much if not more than profit driven.

What makes GrossiWeb unique?

February 9th, 2012 by Stefano

Every so often in life and business we receive the question, what makes you unique? Most recently, I was asked this question and while making my daily smoothie it hit me! The Most Important Networking Tool

September 13th, 2011 by Sergio

Day 8: Your business card should provide your name, phone, and email. When in a social setting, know your place. The ultimate goal is networking for a job in the future, but if the time or the setting is not right, then never force it. When trying to network over extraneously the results backfire. You must choose the correct moment. Know your place in social hierarchy, and only interject yourself into a conversation or setting if you have enough social and communicative power. If you do not possess enough hierarchy then you must find a place of comfort and collective to start your network there. Sometimes you can walk away from a conversation without any networking yet you have developed trust and memory.

The Ambiguous Copyright Law

September 12th, 2011 by Sergio

Day 7: Back in the day, the A&R (artist and repertoire) was the producer. They would find the artist and the writer separately and unite them. In this manner, the writer would get his share and the performer would get his, but the producer gets the majority. The late 40’s through the 50’s and 60’s is when the Independent Studio came to be. Magnetic recording was invented and quality recordings were less expensive and much more common. The Beatles revolutionized the A&R separation with their extensive songwriting and performance. In order to get signed and be successful in the music industry you must close deals. You must get the point across to the distribution label that there is money in your music.
