AI & Automation

AI Can Produce Content. It Cannot Create Business Experience.

AI has made publishing easier, but easier production has not made businesses easier to trust. The advantage now belongs to companies that use AI to communicate real experience, not imitate it.

AI can write a service page before your first cup of coffee gets cold. It can create twenty blog ideas, summarize competitor websites, organize keywords, draft FAQs, and turn a short prompt into an article that sounds polished and professional. That is impressive. It is also becoming ordinary. When every business has access to similar tools, the ability to generate content is no longer a meaningful advantage. The real advantage is having something worth generating content from.

The Problem Is Not AI Content

The debate around AI content is often framed too simply. One side treats AI as a shortcut that should replace most of the creative process. The other assumes anything created with AI is automatically generic or untrustworthy. Neither view is particularly useful. Google has stated that its systems focus on the quality and usefulness of content, not simply how it was produced. Appropriate AI assistance is not against its guidelines. Content created primarily to manipulate search rankings is the problem, regardless of whether it was written by a person or a machine. Google's guidance on AI-generated content The better question is not, “Was AI used?” It is, “What did the business contribute that AI could not?”

AI Knows Patterns. Your Business Knows What Happened.

AI is extremely good at recognizing and reproducing patterns from existing information. Ask it to explain why a website is not converting, and it can provide a reasonable list: unclear messaging, slow loading, weak calls to action, poor mobile design, or unnecessary friction. But it does not know what happened when your team redesigned a real client's website. It does not know which problem customers kept mentioning, what the analytics revealed, which solution failed during testing, why the team changed direction, or what happened after the new experience launched. Those details are not content decoration. They are the source of credibility. A competitor can ask AI to write about the same topic. It cannot reproduce your customer conversations, project decisions, original observations, internal data, or lessons earned through years of work. That is the material that turns general information into business authority.

Generic Expertise Is Becoming Easier to Recognize

Many AI-assisted articles are technically correct. They are also interchangeable. They use the same examples, repeat the same advice, and reach the same safe conclusions. Remove the logo and company name, and the article could belong to almost any competitor. This matters because both readers and search systems are looking for reasons to trust one source over another. Google's people-first content guidance asks whether content demonstrates first-hand expertise, serves an intended audience, and leaves readers with enough useful information to achieve their goal. It also warns against extensive automation across many topics without adding meaningful value. Google's helpful content guidance The standard is not whether the article sounds intelligent. The standard is whether it contains something genuinely useful and attributable to the business behind it.

What Real Experience Looks Like in Content

Experience does not require revealing confidential information or turning every article into a formal case study. It can appear through:

  • A recurring question customers ask before buying
  • An anonymized example from a real project
  • A mistake the team made and what it learned
  • Original photographs, screenshots, tests, or measurements
  • A comparison based on actually using two approaches
  • A specialist explaining why the obvious solution was not appropriate
  • A result placed in context instead of presented as an isolated number

Even a small detail can signal that the writer understands the subject beyond what is commonly repeated online. Instead of saying, “Businesses should track conversions,” explain what happens when a company redesigns its website without configuring form tracking. Instead of saying, “AI saves time,” show which step was removed from a real workflow and what still required human review. Specificity is difficult to imitate because it comes from reality.

The Right Role for AI

AI becomes most valuable when it helps a business extract and communicate what it already knows. It can analyze customer questions, organize interview notes, identify missing explanations, compare performance data, develop an outline, or adapt expert knowledge into clearer language for different audiences. The process should begin with business evidence, not an empty prompt. A stronger workflow looks like this:

  1. Start with a real customer problem or business observation.
  2. Gather the expert's experience, evidence, and point of view.
  3. Use AI to organize, challenge, or clarify the material.
  4. Review the result for accuracy, specificity, and usefulness.
  5. Add the details that only the business could know.

In that process, AI is not pretending to be the expert. It is helping the expert communicate more effectively.

Your Experience Is the Part Competitors Cannot Prompt

The future of content will not belong to the businesses that generate the most words. Production is already becoming too easy for that to remain an advantage. It will belong to businesses that can turn their experience into clear, useful, verifiable knowledge. Before publishing your next AI-assisted article, ask one question: What is in this content that a competitor could not create using the same prompt? If the answer is nothing, the content is not finished.

I had been courting a high profile business prospect, but after a few months my prospect was becoming increasingly distant. One morning after I had made some follow up calls, my prospect called me right back stating he had seen a news story about my company on Google news. This is the type of instant gratification and credibility I have experienced working with Grossi Web.
